Bring 'Em Back Alive

Frank Buck spent his life capturing alive every kind of animal, from birds to snakes to elephants. The intrepid Texas animal collector and jungle adventurer enthralled generations of readers and moviegoers with stories of danger and daring. He was one of only a handful of great early 20th century adventurers who left a legend.

He survived an attack by a spitting cobra trapped an authentic man-eating tiger, cornered a leopard loose on a sea-bound ship, he took as a challenge any claim that a particular animal had never been captured.

Bring "Em Back Alive was his first book. In 1930, it was an immediate world-wide best-seller that catapulted him to world recognition. The book tells of his adventures capturing exotic animals, mostly from Malaysia.

Buck's exploits led to more books, then movies based on his escapades, Classic Illustrated Comics featured a Frank Buck "Bring 'em Back Alive" series, and eventually, later, a Frank Buck TV show was created around his exploits in the Indiana Jones format.

While modern readers may find some of Buck's methods to be callous, it can't be denied that, for his era, Buck exhibited much care and concern for the welfare and treatment of all animals, especially at a time when it was a sentiment that many were not sensitive to.
