The Making of a Gentleman

Leonora Freemantle believes passionately in the power of learning. To prove her radical theory that only education separates the so-called “upper” and “lower” orders of Regency society, Leonora makes a wager with her eccentric uncle that she can pass off a common soldier as a gentleman officer during a season at Bath. If she succeeds, Leonora will gain the capital she needs to found a school for girls, as well as the freedom to remain unwed. If she loses the wager, she must marry a man of her uncle’s choosing and give up her bluestocking ways.

Morse Archer takes up the challenge, which promises to improve his future prospects. But he soon chafes under Leonora’s strict tutelage. Perhaps a little flirtation will melt some of the starch from the bluestocking beauty. Leonora finds Sergeant Archer’s roguish charm hard to resist. But with her whole future at stake, she cannot risk losing her heart!
