Advances in Experimental Philosophy of Science

This volume gathers together leading philosophers of science from around the world. Together, they contribute to one of the first book-length studies of this important and emerging field.
The book brings together a range of disciplines from the hard sciences, as well as economics, philosophy, and psychology. Specific topics considered include learning and the nature of scientific knowledge, the cognitive consequences of exposure to explanations, mechanistic reasoning and abstraction, climate change, and more. All the contributors, led by editors Richard Samuels and Daniel Wilkenfeld, seek to ask, and answer, the question of how experimental methods can be applied to questions about the nature of science, and to show how to fruitfully theorize about the nature and role of science with well-grounded empirical research.
While the philosophy of science is currently underexplored as an area of philosophical enquiry and deserves more recognition, Advances in Experimental Philosophy of Science presents a new direction in philosophical studies and paves a path for those who might seek to pursue research in experimental philosophy of science.
